I Believe You There: Project 180, Day 181

Okay, I know. I’ve already done my 180 for the year. So, please humor me as I for one day change it to Project 181.

For my readers.

I Believe You There

Each morning I rise
And believe you there
As my fingers fumble
And sleepy eyes stare

At the screen
Trying to find
What I might write
From my mind

Some days easy
Some days hard
I’m a blogger
Not a bard

Either way
I believe you there
And so I find
Something to share

I believe you there
It creates account
To what my work
Might amount

Flights of fancy
Sometimes take hold
Other times I find
My fight more bold

Three years now
I’ve believed you there
So I wrote to write
As I breathe the air

I believe you there
And imagine your mind
When you read my words
What do you find?

I’m never quite sure
I try to guess
What sense you might make
Of my mess

If I could
Just plant a seed
I wish these words
You might heed

I believe you there
I truly do
But my words I hope
Help you find you

I believe in reflection
This you know
It’s a superfood
It helps us grow

So when I believe
You there my friend
I imagine you chasing
Your own noble end

To know that maybe
This is true
Gives me the heart
To start anew

My early morning
Sleepy-eyed stare
All because
I believe you there

Thank you, all. Have a great summer.

Do. Reflect. Do Better.

  1. Hi Monte. I am here and I love that you are here too. Your words have enlightened me, inspired me, and lifted up my heart. Thanks for sharing your journey and putting the spotlight on relationships and learning through reflection.

  2. “What do you find?”
I find one line that disappoints –
    “I’m just a teacher”

    and here I think
    I need to anoint
    “Sy” with my thoughts
    on how words matter
    and “just” should not be
    in his poems or chatter.

    Teachers like him
    are hard to find
    ones that share share share
    and are so kind

    not asking anything from us
as we soak up his words
    that he wrote long ago
when the only thing awake was birds…

I’m no good at sappy rhymes
    but saw Kristin’s above
    and had to try
    the love.

Wishing you all the best this summer! Words to replace “just a teacher” – counselor, mediator, listener, problem-solver, contributor, author, explorer, collaborator, adventurer, risk-taker, learner, visionary, coach, guide, supporter, amplifier, leader, change-agent, difference-maker, hero… 🙂

    1. Hi, Joy. Thank you for catching my poorly phrased line. Changed it to

      “Some days easy
      Some days hard
      I’m a blogger
      Not a bard”

Also wishing you the best summer, friend. Thank you for keeping me honest.

  3. Thank you so much for being you! Reading your poem reminds me that, as teachers, we often do not know whose lives we have truly touched. So, this if for you from me 🙂

    I am here
    I read your prose
    How many are we
    No one knows

    You influence, encourage
    Guide and teach
It is not only your students
    That you reach

    I may not read
    each word each day
    I am also teacher
    (No time, I say!)

    I know your students
    Are fortunate to know
    You care always
    As they learn and grow

    It’s folks like you
    In our field of work
    That make me proud
    While others smirk

    We don’t do it
    For the pay
    We do it so that
    We can say

    Two, three, five, ten
    Years from now
    A difference I made
Even if I don’t know how

    Happy summer to you
    And please keep writing
    Your words, your stories
    Are always enlightening!

“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” ~W.B. Yeats

You help to keep my fire bright!
